The Bangkok Bank Foundation has consecutively held an annual premier arts events “Bualuang Paintings Contest” for 35 years. From 142 artists with the total of 220 entries, the panel of judges has chosen the best works of art from 3 categories. A total of 88 art pieces of award winning paintings and also additional paintings were selected to join the 35th Bualuang Paintings Exhibition from 8th August - 24th September, 2013. With collaboration from the expert panel of judges, the Bangkok Bank Foundation is a proud supporter of Thai art circles for over three decades. Bualuang Paintings Contest has grown into one of Thailand’s premier arts events, which widely accepted by Thailand’s artists and art community for its high standards and breadth of contest, covering Traditional Thai, Semi-traditional Thai and Contemporary Paintings categories. For this year, three gold award winners will get a sponsorship for International Field Trip to England. The award winning pieces are as follows.
About Bualuang Painting
Initiated in 1974 by the Bangkok Bank Foundation, the ‘Bualuang Painting’ competition has flourished for three decades, providing strength in Thai arts and culture through encouraging valuable art by Thai artists.
The renowned Bualuang Painting competition is the most prestigious in the country. Many previous winners have since gone on to become great artists, some honored as National Artists.
Painting Categories
The Bualuang Painting Competition includes three categories:
1. Thai traditional - Paintings with a form, creative processes, techniques and content consistent with traditional Thai arts
2. Thai semi-traditional - Paintings with a form, creative processes, techniques and content which adapts the essence of Thai arts, but which uniquely suit current trends
3. Thai contemporary - A free and modern expression by Thai artists
