The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) is pleased to announce the opening of its second consecutive flag exhibition, "States of Change." The exhibition features 16 national, international, and Philadelphia-based artists who were selected from a competitive pool of applicants to create pendant flags to be displayed in Spruce Street Harbor Park during the 2025 summer season.
The "States of Change" outdoor exhibition at Spruce Street Harbor Park features flags that represent themes of transformation, resilience, and perception. These flags highlight the ever-changing nature of urban life and the shifting identities within communities.
Some flags use bright patterns and moving imagery to convey adaptability, while others present imagery that challenges traditional ideas of permanence. Certain flags incorporate historical references, prompting viewers to consider the deeper connections among people and to recognize often-overlooked stories during urban renewal.
Celestial depictions inspire us to reflect on hope and compassion amidst chaos, while other photographed and painted elements derived from observation reveal hidden messages that invite us to seek meaning in unexpected places. Overall, this vibrant display of flags celebrates creativity during times of change and encourages us to engage critically with the evolving nature of our urban environments.
